WORLD CUP CHAMPS - INDONESIA

World Cup Champs - Indonesia
May 06, 2013
MasterCraft and the IWWF World Cup returned once again over the weekend to the Jakabaring Sports Complex for the 37th Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup. The second stop for 2013, having recently completed number 36 in Mandurah - Western Australia, this return to Palembang was a welcome one, the second of which to be held in Indonesia.
In true World Cup style, large crowds assembled to watch the world's elite athletes compete in Wakeboard, Jump and Shortboard in both men and women's divisions. MasterCraft, the exclusive official towboat of all IWWF World Titled events once again provided the Ilmor powered towboats in the form of a ProStar 190 for tournament and the hugely popular X2 for the wakeboard event.
An exceptionally well promoted series, the World Cup Live Webcast attracted viewers from across the globe via www.iwwf.tv in a YouTube video format. For the final's day on Sunday, this live webcast was the "most viewed" live sports event in the world, a fact from YouTube's statistics, proof that the goal of the World Cup series: to bring our sport to the masses is clearly being met.
In front of thousands of spectators both online and on shore, the Men's Wakeboard Final consisted of no less than 5 of the 6 places being filled with Team MasterCraft riders from Europe,Australia, Japan and the USA. Wakeboard legend Andrew Adkison delivered a faultless run earning 3rd place followed by Japan's Shota Tezuka finishing in 2nd. World Champion and the undisputed icon of Wakeboarding - Harley Clifford put in two blistering passes - possibly the best ever seen in competition to earn himself yet again the number one spot on the World Cup podium.
The finale of the day was the ever exciting Men's Jump event which saw Great Britain's Damian Sharman first off the dock setting the standard with a fantastic jump of 60.5 meters. This distance proved to be unbeatable as the rest of the skiers took to the water, the closest competitor being Bojan Schipner (GER) who managed a leap of 59.7 meters. To rapturous applause, the world famous, world champion and world record holder - Freddy Krueger was last off the dock jumping to victory once again with a massive 64.1 meter jump on his third attempt. Having won on his first jump, he didn't want to disappoint the crowd and opted to fly for a second and third time much to the delight of the massive crowd!
2013 will prove to be an exciting year for the World Cup series with further dates to be announced as anticipation builds for the exceptional milestone of stop number 40!
